Joel Madden’s family helped him discover real happiness

Nicole Richie and Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden are one of the happiest couples in Hollywood and the rocker’s latest comments about his family will completely make your heart melt.

During a recent interview with Details, the “I Just Wanna Live” hit maker confessed that his wife of four years and their two children — daughter Harlow and son Sparrow — are his “guiding light.”

While many Hollywood couples are not able to juggle their personal and professional lives, Madden and Richie’s relationship tends to work because they actively avoid each other’s projects.

Things are simplest when we’re not involved in each other’s work,” Madden confessed of why he and his kids avoid Richie’s new show Candidly Nicole.

“[There] are… people who think we want to be in tabloids, like we’re asking someone to surprise us with a camera,” he confessed to Details. “If I was only interested in people seeing me, I’d be on Nicole’s show, and as a family we made a firm decision not to do that. The show is totally Nicole’s thing. The family is our thing, and we protect it.”

But Richie and the couple’s kids are not Joel’s only family, because he is also super-close to his twin brother Benji, who joined him during the interview to chat about their latest music projects and how their lives have changed over the years.

“We’re best friends,” Joel says. “Benji even meets my son when he goes off to camp for the day.” And while Benji makes sure that he’s involved in his brother’s life as well as his niece and nephew’s, he has also hinted to the fact that family is pretty much what every man wants.

When asked if he has plans on settling down, Benji confessed, “I did relationship damage to myself in my 20s. That’s what your 20s are for. You learn, and then you apply it in your 30s.”

Does that mean Cameron Diaz may be walking down the aisle to this rocker in the near future? Oh, we hope so!

Touching on the damage that Benji previously referred to, it was not just relationship damage that these two brothers had to deal with in their youth.

“Benji and I were 18 when we left home, and by the time we were 20, we had a record deal. People gave us things — girls, drugs, money — but the one thing no one gave us was good advice. You have these leeches saying, ‘Now, we’re going to do this, and you’re going to do that,’ and you’re like, ‘OK!’ You don’t know any better,” Joel revealed.

So, we’re really glad to see that both Benji and Joel are in such a good place in their lives at the moment.
