Joan Rivers personal doctor says selfie never happened?

Joan Rivers‘ doctor is speaking out to close sources about what went down in the operating room during the procedure that led to Rivers’ death.

Rivers’ ENT specialist, Dr. Gwen Korovin, told sources that the reports about the selfie are completely incorrect, as reported by TMZ. CNN previously reported that a staff member at Yorkville Endoscopy told investigators that Dr. Korovin took the picture while Rivers was under anesthesia. Korovin is firing back with alleged comments that the source is “making up lies.”

TMZ reports they spoke with “sources closely connected with the doctor.” The site is saying Dr. Korovin is setting the record straight on the reported unplanned biopsy on Rivers’ vocal cords, which she was accused of performing during Rivers’ scheduled endoscopy. Dr. Korovin says this is also wrong. Though TMZ asked if she performed another unplanned procedure, they did not receive a response.

Yorkville Endoscopy’s Dr. Lawrence Cohen performed the endoscopy on Rivers, but left the hospital following her death and is no longer practicing. The spokesman who commented on Dr. Cohen’s departure did not elaborate on the circumstances that led to the doctor’s exit.

ABC 7 in New York is reporting that Dr. Cohen was asked to step down following Rivers’ death. The station also reported that Dr. Cohen was not authorized to practice at the clinic during the time he performed Rivers’ endoscopy.

Rivers died on Sept. 4, nearly a week after going into cardiac arrest during the procedure. She was 81.

The state health department and the city medical examiner’s officer are said to be investigating the death. So far, neither Dr. Cohen or Dr. Korovin have been accused of wrongdoing.

Dr. Korovin has a great reputation among her patients and is known as the “patron saint of Broadway singers and actors,” according to the NY Daily News. Her star-studded clientele includes Hugh Jackman, Kristin Chenoweth, Julie Andrews and Mick Jagger.
