Actor Charles Dance has confirmed his character Tywin Lannister will appear in Game of Thrones Season 5, leaving us wondering how that will work exactly.

If you’ll remember, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) kills his father Tywin at the end of Season 4. Tywin, justifiably, gets a few arrows to the gut when Tyrion catches him on the john as Tyrion’s escaping from King’s Landing.
Yet, in an interview with MTV UK, Dance said the Lannister patriarch will, in fact, appear in Season 5. “I’m not completely missing out on the next series. More than that, I’m not going to say. You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister, is all I’ll say.”
There is some speculation that this means Tywin is still alive, but we don’t think that’s the case. Sure, there are some magical elements to Game of Thrones, but suffice it to say, this show isn’t The Vampire Diaries. Death is generally more permanent.

More than likely, Tywin will be back via flashbacks or dream sequences in the same way Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) returned to visit Daenerys after his death. Tywin also could be seen in Season 5 as a corpse similar to Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), though we think the latter is more likely given Dance’s tease.
We hear Tyrion will be feeling quite a bit of regret and depression following his angry rampage, which left his lover and his father dead at his hands. He’ll probably feel guilty over Shae’s death more than Tywin’s, but he’s sure to reminisce about both. Perhaps the memory of Tywin and his strict rules will haunt Tyrion.
Tywin may be returning for an appearance, but some of our favorite Game of Thrones characters will not for the upcoming season. It has been confirmed that both Bran Stark and Hodor won’t be seen at all in Season 5.
