Stamos took to Instagram on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to share with the world what his mother means to him. He posted a photo of his mom and himself as a child.

“The love of my life passed away yesterday in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren,” Stamos wrote along with the photo. “My mother had enough love to fuel a small country. She was truly one of a kind and will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.”

Stamos continued, “A few weeks ago, I asked my mom if she remembered an inconsequential event — she simply replied, ‘I only remember the love.’ #Brokenhearted #Iloveyouthemost.”

Stamos (who may forever be known as Uncle Jesse) not only remembered his mother, but he also asked his fans to support her charity — the Vanguard Cancer Foundation, according to People. According to the foundation, they are a “not-for-profit, volunteer organization, advocating for more personalized and intelligent cancer care. Cancer patients are not statistics and they do not respond according to predetermined textbook expectations. Rather, each patient is different and must be given the opportunity to identify those therapies that most effectively kill their cancer.”

Loretta Stamos had also written a founder’s message on the website, sharing her own experiences with cancer.

“Thirteen years ago, I held my brother’s hand as a doctor told him that his cancer was untreatable,” his mother wrote as part of her original founder’s message. “As I think back to that moment, I realize just how many people would have accepted that diagnosis and given up. Thankfully, Jake knew better. The Vanguard Cancer Foundation will be here, empowering patients to take the fight against cancer into their own hands.”
