Cindy Lauper and Sara Bareilles teamed up with Today host Hoda Kotb to make a super-cute video featuring kids with cancer to help raise money for pediatric cancer.
The video was part of the Today Show‘s Shine a Light series, which is a campaign that supports important causes throughout the year. Host Hoda Kotb chose to help lift the spirits of kids with cancer with a video collaboration between Lauper and Bareilles that used actual young cancer patients.

Kotb, Lauper and Bareilles brought some fun to children at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia by having the kids be part of a very special collaboration. The two singers merged two of their most popular songs, “True Colors” and “Brave,” to create “Project Truly Brave.”
The video shows Lauper and Bareilles intertwining their songs together as the children’s scenes play out. The story in the clip follows the kids as they all leave their hospital beds to go into a big room and play with different colors of paint. They create different paintings and also paint all over themselves for one big colorful funfest.

When they’re done, the kids scurry back to their beds to be tucked in for the night, with the staff totally oblivious to their paint-filled adventure.
The video was first premiered during Today on Thursday, and all the kids that starred in it were also present on set to watch their performances for the first time. Once they watched the video, the children were asked about how they liked playing with paint and singing in the video.

“I liked getting painted like a cat,” one little girl said. Talking about what the video is trying to aim for, a boy named Collin added that if people get inspired by it, he hopes they can try to give a little help.
“People can help. I’m not saying you need to drop everything you’re doing and start helping,” Colin said. “But you can do a little, if everyone helps a little bit… [it adds up to a lot].”
