Turns out, Jason Derulo may have been hinting about his breakup with Jordin Sparks days before the news actually broke.

Derulo captioned the photo, “It’s my buurrffday?? #virgonation 25 yrs- quarter century Life… Our futures are not only moved by the decisions we make but by the ones we love as well. Is Derulo hinting that mistakes were made in his relationship that brought it to an end? It definitely seems like the singer is doing more reflecting than partying for his birthday celebration.
Sparks and Derulo have been romantically linked since September 2011.
The two made their most recent public appearance at the 2014 MTV VMAs in late August, even coordinating outfits for the event and showing affection on the carpet. More recently, Sparks posted an Instagram photo of herself and Derulo working out at the gym on Sept. 8.

While sources are saying the couple broke up because of their busy schedules and they are committed to remaining friends, Derulo’s cryptic Instagram message makes us think maybe things between the two weren’t that clean.
Meanwhile, Sparks also seems to be upset over the breakup. She’s been posting some sad tweets and she even unfollowed Derulo.
I think we can all agree we did not see this one coming.
