Mindy Kaling went on Howard Stern’s show a few weeks ago and admitted something that came as no surprise to anyone — B.J. Novak was actually the love of her life. The best friends have always seemed to share a special bond and it turns out that friendship started as a relationship.

Although it appears Novak was the one who ended the relationship, he has responded to her comments about him being her one and only true love.
“I thought it sounded to me like an honest and heartfelt account to a complicated and mostly wonderful relationship,” Novak told Andy Cohen, via Us Weekly.
When Kaling visited Howard Stern, he asked if she had any great loves who got away. Kaling replied, “Yeah. He’s my best friend. He broke up with me. It was years and years ago that that breakup happened. I was so sad, not angry, sad. That was the hottest I ever looked ’cause I stopped eating. When I get depressed, I stop eating. I was so miserable and so beautiful.”
But the public announcement meant something to Novak and, apparently, his whole family.
“The highlight of that for me was my mom calling me to pry,” Novak joked. “‘So, what do you think of what Howard was saying? Sounded pretty interesting to me.’ Like Howard Stern would somehow end up to my mom’s sort of gentle harangue as, ‘When are you getting your life together?'”

Novak and Kaling met nearly 10 years ago on the set of The Office and have been friends ever since. Even though their relationship didn’t work out, they seem to be each other’s BFF.
“People are so different and you can overlap in certain ways that are important,” Kaling explained, “but not the ones that are the most important.”
