Zach Braff came under harsh criticism when he asked for funding through Kickstarter to help him get his film Wish I Was Here underway. The reason for this criticism is that Braff’s net worth is estimated to be in the millions, and his critics think that for this reason, he shouldn’t have asked for contributions from fans.

However, the actor has slammed the criticism, saying it was “unfair” and “uninformed.”
The former Scrubs star explained at the Zurich Film Festival — where his film was screened on Friday — how upset he was at the seemingly unnecessary backlash.
“I was completely taken aback by the criticism. I was expecting a conversation because it’s a fascinating and new model,” Braff said.

“I felt that a lot of the criticism was unfair and uninformed,” Braff continued, according to Screen Daily via Us Weekly. “It was frustrating having the debate with people who didn’t have all the analytics and facts. I knew that we were driving new people to Kickstarter who then invested in other projects, for example. The onus was on me to explain why someone like me couldn’t get a film made in the traditional way.”
However, Braff did get the money for the film, which, with the help of his fans, was successfully financed in just three days’ time. Wish I Was Here was released in July and was written by Braff and his brother Adam J. Braff, and features an all-star cast including Kate Hudson, Joey King and Jim Parsons.
