Just hours after learning her husband would be spending 41 months in prison, Teresa Giudice learned her own sentence — and the judge wasn’t happy with her.

Joe and Teresa Giudice were indicted in July 2013 on 39 charges, including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud. They have been fighting a legal battle for the last year and, now, finally know their sentences. Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison, according to People.
“For a moment I thought about probation — but I think a period of confinement is absolutely necessary in this case,” the judge told Teresa at her sentencing. “I don’t honestly believe that you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law, it doesn’t matter who you are. There are consequences to pay.”
Teresa Giudice is allowed to surrender for her sentence after the new year, but will also be spending two years on probation after she completes her time in jail. The couple had originally pleaded not guilty to the crimes, but back in March, they changed their pleas to guilty.
The Giudices have four children, ranging from 5 to 13 years old, but it’s not clear who will be taking care of them in that time.
“My daughters are my life,” Teresa Giudice said earlier in the day. “I’m more sorry than anyone will ever know. I will make this right no matter what.”

The judge seemed to have sympathy for the statement and told Teresa, “You’re a devoted mother. You have no criminal history. You’ve paid your taxes. Those girls need their mother at this critical age in their lives. There’s a bond between a mother and a daughter.”
But that sympathy obviously wasn’t enough to get rid of the prison sentence. Joe Giudice may also face deportation after his sentence is completed.
