Lindsay Lohan just wants to be taken seriously, but the West End stage might not be the place for her. On Thursday, the Mean Girls star made her theater debut in Speed-the-Plow at the Playhouse Theatre in London.
According to the New York Daily News, the actress is being fed lines from a production assistant in the wings. A source told the periodical that Lohan has reportedly struggled with her lines in the show, which was also evident during last week’s preview.

The story is a black comedy about the cruel side of the movie industry, and it follows two Hollywood producers looking for their big break. The Freaky Friday star tackles the role of Karen, who is a secretary to one of the producers.
Even though Lohan is trying something new, some of the reviews of the show are also less than kind to the troubled starlet.
Mark Shenton from The Stage wrote that Lohan was “out of her league” in the David Mamet play. He wrote, “Whether it is down to nervousness or a lack of preparation, the producers still need to ask if it is appropriate to have exposed her so publicly in this way, or audiences to it.”

Lindsay Lohan files lawsuit against “Grand Theft Auto V”
Quentin Letts of the Mail Online called Lohan’s casting “a travesty of art.” He also chided, “Acting on the West End is no joke… the theatre is not just about money. It should be about truth, and truth was absent last night.”
The Guardian‘s Michael Billington was a bit kinder to Lohan, stating, “Aside from a single prompt, she holds the stage with ease and doesn’t let the side down.”
The show runs through Nov. 29 and co-stars Nigel Lindsay and The West Wing‘s Richard Schiff.
