Michael Phelps made headlines for all the wrong reasons last week when it was announced he had been arrested for the second time on a DUI charge. But now the champ is getting the help he needs.

Michael Phelps DUI: Champ sorry for letting down fans

The Olympic swimmer’s fans were disappointed with their icon’s latest actions, but they weren’t the only ones. Phelps has expressed deep remorse for his actions, which left him being busted for driving almost twice the posted speed limit and weaving over the double yellow lines in a Maryland tunnel.

The athlete previously took to Twitter on Sept. 30 to say sorry to everyone for his actions, and he swore to take responsibility. Now it seems that’s just what he has done.

On Sunday, Phelps took to Twitter to share his decision to enter rehab, saying he was going to take some time away to “better understand himself.”

A spokesperson for the sports agency representing Michael Phelps, Octagon, confirmed the news that Phelps would be entering rehab during a statement released to E! News.

Octagon said Phelps “is entering himself into a six-week, inpatient program,” adding, “While this has been an extremely difficult time for him, he is encouraged that this comprehensive program will help him focus on all of his life experiences and identify areas of need for long-term personal growth and development. Michael takes this matter seriously and intends to share his learning experiences with others in the future.”

We hope Phelps gets the help that he needs!
