Tony Award-winning star Marian Seldes died Monday at the age of 86.
According to the Daily Mail, Seldes died peacefully in her sleep at her New York home after an extended illness. Her brother Timothy Seldes released a statement celebrating his sister’s life and confirming that she had died.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news that my dear sister Marian Seldes has died,” he said in a statement. “She was an extraordinary woman whose great love of the theater, teaching and acting was surpassed only by her deep love for her family.”
Seldes was loved by many, and her career was more than impressive. Not only had she been recognized for her talent with a slew of awards, she was nominated five times for a Tony Award. She also earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive performances after starring in every performance during the run of Deathtrap from 1978 to 1982, an impressive total of 1,809 performances (her record was since broken by Catherine Russell).

Seldes’ most recent Broadway performance was in Terrence McNally’s Deuce in 2007, starring opposite Angela Lansbury. But she has starred in dozens of critically acclaimed productions including A Delicate Balance, Father’s Day, Deathtrap, Ring Round the Moon and Dinner at Eight. Seldes’ film credits include Home Alone 3, Truman and Sex and the City.
Aside from Seldes’ professionalism and durability, she also was a teacher to the stars. Some of her former pupils at Juilliard include Laura Linney, Kevin Spacey, Robin Williams, Christopher Reeve and Kevin Kline.
Variety reports that no funeral or memorial service will be held for Seldes, according to her wishes.
