Katie Holmes is set to once again play Jackie Kennedy in a second miniseries for Reelz, which leaves us thinking of other actresses who could do a much better job with the role.
The Kennedys — After Camelot will air on the network as a follow-up to the 2011 miniseries, The Kennedys. According to EW, Holmes will not only be starring in the three-episode series, she is also set to direct one of the episodes. Jon Cassar, who helmed the original series, will be back to direct the rest of the episodes.
What’s more American than Thanksgiving with The Kennedys?
News of the sequel came as a bit of a surprise to many viewers who watched the first one. Based on reviews, the original series was received by lukewarm reviews. The Hollywood Reporter went so far as to call The Kennedys “dull” and “unwatchable.”
In addition to the less-than-stellar reviews of the series itself, there are some viewers who found Holmes’ portrayal of Jackie Kennedy uninspiring. With a new series in the works, there are undoubtedly countless actresses who could better fill the role.
Katie Holmes’ The Kennedys movie finds a home
Since After Camelot will deal with the later years of Jackie Kennedy’s life, we could see someone like Army Wives‘ Catherine Bell in the lead role, or how about Gilmore Girls‘ Lauren Graham or Sex and the City‘s Kristin Davis? Can’t you just imagine those ladies taking the role of Jackie Kennedy to another level?
If a new biopic about Jackie Kennedy’s earlier years was to be redone, we think Alexis Bledel would be amazing (come on, we can’t pick one of the Gilmore Girls without picking the other one, as well). We also think Hart of Dixie‘s Rachel Bilson could do a fantastic job, as well.
