Two sources have confirmed to E! News that Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to make an appearance as the infamous Tony Stark in Captain America 3, which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.
If you’ve seen The Avengers, then you know all too well that noble Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) doesn’t get along at all with rebellious Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Their interaction in The Avengers provided some of the most hilarious scenes in the film, which means we’re hoping there are many more to come.

While the first Captain America film left many fans on the fence, the sequel sealed the series’ deal as a Marvel heavyweight with many agreeing the follow-up was much better than the first. Of course, the numbers confirm the success. Captain America: The First Avenger earned just over $65 million for its opening weekend in the U.S. while The Winter Soldier raked in $95 million with the same parameters.
It should be noted, however, that the sources who spoke with E! News were sure to say that negotiations for Downey Jr. to join the cast are just beginning and could fall apart at this stage of the game.

As for Downey, he’s said multiple times in the past that he’s happy to continue playing Iron Man as long as Marvel continues with the paychecks. Forbes named Downey Jr. as the highest-paid actor in the world. He earned $75 million for Iron Man 3 alone.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released on Blu-ray last month, so you can catch up on the series from the comfort of your own home if you didn’t catch it in theaters.
