Amy Poehler finally gets frank on Will Arnett divorce

Breaking up is hard to do. It’s been more than two years since Amy Poehler and Will Arnett announced their divorce and Poehler has finally decided to break her silence on the split — but she has done so quietly.

Amy Poehler schools a guy about gender expectations

Poehler wrote about her divorce in her new memoir, Yes, Please, admitting that it is “too sad” and “too personal” to talk about out loud. According to E! News, Poehler wrote about her very personal feelings on splitting from her husband of nine years.

“Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air,” Poehler wrote. “The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands.

“Getting a divorce really sucks,” she added.

The breakup also made Poehler realize how societal divorce has become and that she is not alone. She explained, “When you are a person going through a divorce you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become. You aren’t allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain.”

Arnett and Poehler have two children, 5-year-old Archie and 6-year-old Abel. Poehler said that connection between her and Arnett will always be special and she is “proud of how my ex-husband Will and I have been taking care of our children. I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don’t think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure.”

Through it all, the Parks and Recreation actress said it was Louis C.K. who helped her through, because of his advice that “divorce is always good news because no good marriage has ever ended in divorce.”
