U2 frontman Bono admits forcing you to listen to their new album by automatically downloading it onto your iTunes without your permission was a really, really crappy thing to do.

During an open Q&A session on the band’s Facebook page yesterday, Bono explained that he let his ego get the best of him when he got this great idea to let Apple invade our personal computers with unasked-for media.

A fan asked, “Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to people’s playlists ever again? It’s really rude.”
“Oops, I’m sorry about that,” Bono apologized.
“I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing: A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn’t be heard.
“There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it,” he said.
