The cast of The Walking Dead is about to grow again. Alexandra Breckenridge has joined the hit drama and we’re speculating on how her character will fit in this season and possibly the next.
The fifth season of the AMC series got off to an explosive start on Sunday and now that the survivors have escaped Terminus and most have been reunited, it’s time for them to start on their next adventure.
Did The Walking Dead Season 5 premiere tease major changes ahead?
It looks like Breckenridge’s character will fit right into their travel plans. The Hollywood Reporter reports that she will play Samantha, who is described as an “attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate woman with a vulnerable side. She’s a mother with a bohemian spirit, and a talented artist.” Breckenridge is set to recur in Season 5, with an option for promotion to a season regular cast member in Season 6.
Though AMC also told the news outlet that the name of the character and the entire description might be a placeholder, we’re going to go ahead and speculate based on the info we have. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time a network said the initial information was wrong just to keep viewers guessing.
Bohemian artist
Readers of the comic know that the next destination likely on Rick and his group’s path will be a place known as the Alexandria Safe-Zone. Unlike Terminus, this place is actually a pretty good sanctuary and if Rick and his group do end up there on the TV series, we think they could meet up with Samantha. We picture her as an artist who managed to survive the apocalypse and now has found a way to continue her art so that she can find some beauty in this new scary world.
Here are six things we think will happen during The Walking Dead Season 5
Stepmom?
We’re also intrigued by the fact that the description of the character says that she’s a mother. As the survivors have seen, keeping children alive in a world of walkers isn’t easy. So we already admire Samantha’s guile and wonder if she and Rick will bond over being some of the few parents left in the world. If things work out, who knows — she could end up as Carl’s stepmom.
Leader of the pack
Another part of the description calls Samantha “attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate.” Is it just us or does that sound like a leader of some sort? If the show veers away from the comic and the group doesn’t go to the Safe-Zone, they may still find a group of people living in a community. Since Samantha is an artist, maybe she will be leading a group of like-minded people who are trying to create a sort of hippie-style commune. How they will do that in the midst of a zombie apocalypse is unclear, but this show has proven that anything is possible.
Spin-off, anyone?
With news of a Walking Dead spin-off that will take place outside of Georgia, we wonder if maybe Samantha will be a crossover character. Perhaps Rick and the group will meet up with her in Georgia, but then she will go her own way and we’ll follow along to the other show. Her encounter with the Georgia survivors might lead to more flashbacks on how other people in different parts of the country survived the walker invasion.

Whatever Breckenridge’s role turns out to be, we’re excited to see how she will fit in with the rest of The Walking Dead cast.
