Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp may not be crumblin’ down after all

It’s been nearly two months since Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp split up, but the pair was apparently spotted together in New York City, sparking reunion rumors.

Ryan and the “Jack and Diane” singer appeared “comfortable and relaxed together” as they took a leisurely walk around Manhattan’s SoHo borough, People magazine reported. The pair also took the time to stop by the Scholastic children’s bookstore, sources for the magazine claimed.

When they first broke things off, Mellencamp hinted several times that he did not permanently break up with the You’ve Got Mail star. Speaking with the Associated Press on Sept. 26, the singer talked about his time with the actress and revealed he’d never find anyone like her.

“[Meg] is a beautiful girl and I know that I will never, ever, ever [be with] with a funnier girl than her. Not gonna happen. I’m grateful for the three and a half years we’ve been together,” Mellencamp said. “Nothing’s over. I never say ‘die’ for anything. Do you ever quit on anything?”

Mellencamp also told Matt Lauer on Sept. 25 that Ryan was “an angel” sent to him and added that “nothing’s over ’til it’s over.” Then, he furthered his hopeful sentiments at a possible rekindling when he mentioned Ryan being his angel again to Howard Stern.

John Mellencamp divorced, free to date Meg Ryan

“We tried to have a relationship for three years long-distance,” Mellencamp said. “Let’s see what happens.”

Ryan and Mellencamp initially split because they lived too far away from each other. Ryan’s residence is in New York City and Mellencamp lives in Indiana, so eventually the distance became an issue. Plus, Mellencamp never really liked NYC and felt unhappy there.

Looks like he didn’t dislike the city that much after all, as he’s back to the Big Apple looking quite happy.
