Neil Patrick Harris isn’t wasting any time spreading the good news about his upcoming gig hosting the 2015 Academy Awards.
And when we say he’s wasting no time, we mean the deal was just agreed upon on at the beginning of the week, according to Harris, who spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the gig.

In fact, it happened so quickly that the actor admitted he still has a few questions before he really dives into his plans for the show.
“I have a lot of questions still about that job,” he admitted.
“I’ve gotten to be the kind of co-producer of the Emmys while I was hosting, and the Tonys since I’ve done that a number of times,” Harris explained. “I’m aware of more things than just the hosting spots… The Oscars is such a gigantic show that I was interested to know how my involvement would play out.”
“It seems like with that many eyes and that big of a show, there are a lot of people that have to say yes before something gets approved. And as it turns out, that’s not really the case.”
Neil Patrick Harris reveals the man who cemented his gayness
As Harris and EW editor Matt Bean point out at the beginning of the interview, it’s been a busy week for Harris. His twins celebrated their birthday, his book was just released, his movie Gone Girl is No. 1 in the country and he was just announced as the 2015 Oscars host. It’s safe to say that Harris is as close to the entertainment king of the world as they come.
Harris summed it up nicely in his interview: “It’s been epic.”
Though Harris just confirmed his hosting gig, he’s already started thinking about his plans for the show.
“I know what I want them not to be,” Harris said of the Oscars. Is he perhaps thinking about James Franco and Anne Hathaway à la the 2011 Oscars?
Actually, Harris is more concerned about his own performance and making it unique compared to the other award shows he’s hosted. “I don’t want them to be super derivative of other shows I’ve done. I don’t want it to seem like I’m doing the same hosting gig as the Tonys.”
Neil Patrick Harris’s kids were the real reason he got married
It’s clear Harris is taking the role seriously but, of course, he’s also having fun with the job, as his announcement yesterday proved.
“We wanted to come up with a clever way to announce it, which we did on social media,” the actor explained.
Harris was definitely clever. In the video posted online, he shared his bucket list with the final item as “host the Oscars,” which he gracefully marks as accomplished. Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The show doesn’t air until Feb. 22, 2015. Don’t worry, we’ll knock on some wood for you, NPH.
