Just when we thought it’d all been done before on television, Ryan Murphy announces a new show with Fox that has us checking ourselves.
Scream Queens will be a whole new genre blending horror and comedy, according to Murphy, who announced the new series with Fox Monday morning in a statement.

The 15-episode first season will revolve around a college campus rocked by a series of murders. It is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2015.
“The idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads,” Murphy explained in the statement. “We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to Dana [Walden] and Gary [Newman] for their enthusiastic support.”

Walden and Newman are the cochairmen/CEOs of Fox Television Group.
“One of our top priorities at the network has been to get Ryan Murphy to create a new series for Fox,” Walden and Newman added in the statement. “We loved every element of the pitch for this show — the genre-bending concept, which blends true horror with big comedic moments; the diverse and unforgettable characters and reuniting the phenomenal creative team that delivered Glee. Scream Queens will go straight to series. It’s a huge commitment and an expression of our faith in Ryan.”
Murphy will also be teaming up with his partners Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan again for Scream Queens. The trio previously worked together on Glee.

“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing Scream Queens,” Murphy explained.
There are more than a few reasons we are excited about this new series. First of all, we’re picturing a mix of Heathers and Mean Girls, college style. Second, the new adult genre is not only gaining popularity in books, it’s also taking over television. And last, but of course not least, we love the idea of it being centered on two strong female leads.
