During an interview with Allure magazine — which she graces the cover of for its November 2014 issue and looks stunningly beautiful with virtually no makeup — Washington revealed that her sex scenes with costar Tony Goldwyn “are always awkward.”
“They’re hard to do,” Washington said of her character’s steamy on-screen love scenes. “You’re doing things that you’re supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward,” she added.

The mom-of-one also explained that because her and Goldwyn’s characters (Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant) get down and dirty so often, it’s important to respect boundaries and be mindful of each other’s real-life partners.
Many women love Goldwyn, and he oozes sex appeal, but the Django Unchained actress must be great to work with because she has a deep respect for his wife, Jane Musky.

“Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people’s real relationships in life are important,” she told the mag. “I so respect and admire his wife and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things.”
