Surprise, surprise? Not so much. The CW announced today that they’d greenlit full seasons of both shows that made fall premieres this year: The Flash and Jane the Virgin.
We hope you’re digging The Flash and Jane the Virgin as much as critics, because the network announced today that both series had been picked up for full seasons.
Grant Gustin says he’ll never play a cooler character
It’s not an altogether unsurprising move by the network. The Flash was a highly anticipated show that turned into a massive success. Jane the Virgin, however, has been less so. The comedy has garnered all kinds of praise from critics but not quite the same love from viewers. The second episode of Jane the Virgin did see a considerable jump in viewership, though.
The Flash was, of course, the most predictable of the full-season order. The new superhero show earned more than 6 million viewers for its premiere. It’s been The CW’s highest-rated premiere in the last five years. (Yes, it did better than The Originals.)
The Flash and Arrow crossover teases a new bromance
“We have had a fantastic start to our season this year, with The Flash launching as our most-watched series premiere ever and Jane the Virgin recognized as the best new show this season by critics across the country,” read a statement from network president Mark Pedowitz.
So how many episodes will their first seasons get? The Flash will stick around for a total of 23 episodes (including another possible crossover with Arrow), and you’re stuck with Jane for an even 22. Is she worth it? Maybe. We’re still out. It’s a funny enough show, but we’re still having a hard time wrapping our heads around the believability of the plot. We’ll keep watching for the humor, though. We can’t wait to see where both shows go for their premiere seasons.
