Cue the face to hands while watching this segment from Fox News about young women voting.
There is nothing worse than seeing an intelligent, poised woman drag herself and other women through the mud with an attempted joke (sort of) that just isn’t even a little funny.

Fox News host, Kimberly Guilfoyle, joined the program, The Five, for a prevalent conversation on female voters and whether the notion of Republicans waging “war on women” will actually hurt the Democrats come Nov. 4.
It all started with a comment from fellow host, Greg Gutfeld. “That also correlates with age,” Gutfeld said, referring to statements about how single versus married women vote, “because age comes with wisdom and it’s a known fact that the older that you get, the more conservative you get, and I always tell young people, ‘You don’t have to wait to become a conservative. Don’t waste your time.’ But the point is, a lot of women have also caught on to the big joke, which it seems to be even more sexist to assume that women cannot take care of themselves because they’re women and therefore need the government to take care of them.”

“Right, that’s the thing,” Guilfoyle chimed in. “But when you’re young like that, you think — the same reason why young women on juries are not a good idea, they don’t get it. They’re not in that same life experience of paying the bills, doing the mortgage, kids, community, crime, education, health care. They’re, like, healthy and hot and running around without a care in the world.”
Wait, what? No, you read her comments correctly. Young women are too “healthy and hot” to care about the world around them.
When host, Bob Beckel, objected to Guilfoyle’s comment about juries, Guilfoyle seemed to be ready to recall her words, “I didn’t say they shouldn’t be,” she said. Unfortunately, she kept talking from there, “I just think, excuse them so they can go back on Tinder and Match.com.”
These words are completely inexcusable. She’s basically saying that until women are married, they don’t have the proper life experience to participate in politics. Or, in other words, women need a man to have a complete life and view of the world.

It’s appalling.
And it’s ironic, really, since this segment makes it clear that no one needs to further the idea of a Republican “war on women.” Obviously, they’re doing a great job of creating the notion all on their own with comments like this.
Now, parties aside, whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican or somewhere in between, there is no political line that makes Guilfoyle’s comments acceptable.
Young women aren’t the oblivious ones. It’s just Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Update
The day after the above Fox segment aired, Guilfoyle responded to criticism about her statement.
“Unfortunately, what they [the media] did is they took a headline that said, ‘Kimberly Guilfoyle says young women should not vote.’ I made a joke at the end saying that yeah, if I wanted to thank and excuse someone from jury service that is the language you use in the courtroom — they want to go back and do social media, dating websites, fine. Nothing about voting. I take the right to vote very seriously, I take the right to serve on a jury very seriously and I think you should be informed when you do both things.”
The Fox News hosts of The Five said the media took Guilfoyle’s comments and twisted them around so they were inaccurate. They are making Guilfoyle and Fox News out to be the victims in this situation.
While we appreciate Guilfoyle’s attempt at clarification, we still think her comments were off base and unjustifiable. She offended women by singling them out as the ones who shouldn’t be on a jury. She didn’t say uneducated people shouldn’t be on juries, she said young women shouldn’t be on juries, as though the two are synonymous.
I stand by what I wrote yesterday. I think every piece of the story, including the headline, is accurate. I object to any suggestion that I am unfit to serve my country in any way just because I am a young woman.
