Sam Smith is fast becoming a household name thanks to his incredible vocal skills and hit songs such as “Stay With Me,” which just so happens to be a song about unrequited love — something that the singer unfortunately knows a lot about.
Sam Smith’s hit album inspired by lost love with a straight guy
Part of Smith’s album has been inspired by love gone wrong and heartbreak, and those are topics that the English singer was happy to touch on during his latest interview with Teen Vogue.
“I fell in love with someone last year, and he didn’t love me back,” Smith told the mag. “I deleted him off of WhatsApp, and it felt like I’d just broken up with him. On the record you can hear heartbreak, and there’s a beauty in that I will always treasure.”
Yet despite the fact that he has been unlucky in love doesn’t mean that Smith has given up hope of finding the perfect man in the future.

“The idea of having a house, a kid, a husband and a dog… I love that,” he gushes. “I also really want to open a coffee and flower shop one day, probably in Italy.”
One of the amazing things about Smith is his honesty with both his music and with who he is as a person.
“I stand onstage and I wanna cry for the entire thing because people know my business. You all know me,” he insists. “You can read as many interviews as you want, but if you put on my record, I’m telling you, that is me.”

Smith is an openly gay man and he revealed to Teen Vogue that the public’s reaction to his sexuality has given him faith in the future generations.
“With the whole gay thing, I’ve had zero reaction, which says something beautiful about our generation and how things are getting a little bit better,” he admits.
