Daniel Radcliffe has a simple plan for growing up in Hollywood

Daniel Radcliffe has been known for most of his life as Harry Potter. But now that he has moved on from that, he is finding it difficult to navigate the world of adulthood.

INTERVIEW: Daniel Radcliffe opens up about his love life

Radcliffe took questions during a Reddit chat, and explained what it was like growing up as a child star. And he said, more than anything, he is glad he ended up so normal after all that.

“I would attribute it to my parents and also to the crew of the Potter films, who were very good at treating us like kids rather than as actors, as they should have done,” Radcliffe explained, according to E! News. “It’s hard to say what it comes down to. I think also when you grow up in the media, you get a very clear sense of how crazy the media is.”

The actor explained how the worst part about growing up as a child star was people thinking he was “bratty and obnoxious.” And the best part? “Obviously being mistaken for Elijah Wood,” Radcliffe joked.

Radcliffe and his fellow Harry Potter costar Emma Watson are doing big things in Hollywood, even after shedding the child star persona. But they have remained close. Radcliffe said that growing up with each other made him realize how special it was that they were creating such an important series together.

“The countdown that Emma’s birthday was to when she turned 18, or 17, or whatnot, it was insane. It was insane,” he said. “And I think when you see that perspective that we all saw at very young ages, you do get an extra level of awareness, maybe.”

Now that the child stars of Harry Potter are all grown up, they are becoming A-listers in Hollywood. So who would Radcliffe like to work with if given the chance?

“George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence — I just think they’d be really cool,” he said. “I just want to work with people you can get on with, and you have a good rapport with, and those are definitely some of them.”
