Horrifying abuse claims uncovered in the Honey Boo Boo scandal
The Georgia family’s matriarch, June “Mama June” Shannon, has already lost her show over allegations that she’s dating a registered sex offender who has sexually abused one of her daughters, who was reportedly 8 years old at the time.
Now, ET reports her ex and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, may be fighting for custody of the now 9-year-old former pageant star.
ET consulted legal analyst Darren Kavinoky, who explained, “This can play out in a couple of different ways. Either in a family court action that’s brought by Sugar Bear or the Department of Children Services can decide to get involved on their own.”

As allegations continue to fly and more reports emerge that Sugar Bear will seek custody of his daughter, ET reports that Mama June still denies dating the sex offender, Mark McDaniel, saying she broke off their relationship 10 years ago and hasn’t seen him since.
She defended herself on Facebook after the show’s cancellation was announced, writing, “It isn’t true. I promise my kids r #1 priority over anything else and I would never put them in danger, period, over this or anything else. They r my life. This is my past. I left him 10 yrs ago for it and I wouldn’t go back.”
Mama June has already been investigated by Child Protective Services. Back in 2012, when Honey Boo Boo starred on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras, the child was shown drinking “go-go juice,” a mix of Red Bull and Mountain Dew. No charges were filed then.

“I think that [Mama June] is really in denial,” psychotherapist Beatty Cohan told ET. “Maybe in her world this is something that is not serious. She is selfish. She is narcissistic. She is delusional, and she is an unfit mom.”
