Beyoncé, Taylor Swift songs get mashed together and it’s (sort of) magical

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are two of the biggest and most powerful pop stars at the moment, so it’s only natural that some forward-thinking SoundCloud user would take two of their hit songs and create one heck of a mash-up.

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, a mash-up of Bey’s “XO” and Swift’s “Out Of The Woods” took the blogosphere by storm and we have to admit it’s pretty good. SoundCloud user junesmoon took Yoncé’s vocals from the uplifting love song and combined them with the instrumental to the country-turned-pop darling’s “Out Of The Woods.” Granted, it’s definitely more Bey than Swift, as the background vocals for “XO” also appear pretty dominant, especially toward the end of the track, but it’s one of the more fitting mash-ups we’ve heard lately. At time of press, the mash-up had garnered over 98,000 spins since its initial upload eight days ago.

The best mash-ups on the web

While the mash-up serves as an amazing example of what happens when you combines tunes from artists that would likely never really work with each other, it also shows how much a song can change and evolve with a different set of lyrics. While “Out Of The Woods” is much more of an angsty, HAIM-like song, it becomes a celebratory dance tune once Swift’s vocals are switched out for Beyoncé’s. And yet, even though it does work, “Out Of The Woods” requires such urgency that TSwift’s original really does deliver a much stronger result.
