Wow, being married to Tom Cruise sounds awful, and Katie Holmes confirms it

Katie Holmes slipped a few sly lines into a recent interview that speak volumes about her marriage to Tom Cruise, and she doesn’t make it sound all that fun.

Holmes, who was married to Cruise from 2006 to 2012, said she lives by three rules these days — and she sure made it sound like she put the mantra in place because Cruise’s rules for her were the opposite.

“I don’t have any fear now, I don’t have a lot of rules for myself, and I don’t take myself that seriously,” she told People.

“I feel ready for new challenges.”

Cruise was notoriously controlling during their marriage, reportedly telling her what projects she could take on and even hiring a “valet” under the auspices of being her personal assistant, but who was allegedly a spy who reported back to Cruise on her every move.

Right after their split was announced, sources leaked details of Holmes reportedly going to great lengths to hide her plans to leave, including using secret, disposable cell phones to make legal and financial arrangements before springing the news on an unsuspecting Cruise while he was on a film set.

In a deposition for an unrelated lawsuit, Cruise admitted under oath that Scientology had a hand in the split, and insiders said Holmes was tired of being followed and scrutinized by the controversial group — and that she feared their daughter Suri would soon be indoctrinated.

But today, the actress no longer wants us to associate her with those harried years.

“I don’t want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am,” she told People. “I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now.”
