Taylor Swift has adopted New York as her own, with her first present to the city being a song off her new album. “Welcome to New York” is meant to take the listener through the streets of the city.

And although native New Yorkers may not agree with everything she says, the song is doing much more for the city than anyone imagined. According to ABC News, Swift announced on The View on Wednesday, Oct. 29, that she will be donating all proceeds from the single to New York City Public Schools.
“I’m still learning but I’m so enthusiastic about this city that I feel like when I love something, I’m very vocal about it,” Swift told Good Morning America.
The singer was recently named a “Global Welcome Ambassador” to the city of New York, and has shown her passion for the city, even trying to get her friend Selena Gomez to move to the city.
“I just go around going like, ‘Everybody, New York is amazing,'” she explained. “So I think they just picked up on that and they gave me, like, a title.”

“Welcome to New York” is a song on Swift’s new album1989, which is expect to sell more than a million copies in its first week out. She told GMA that, “I feel so without a doubt [that] this is the best thing I’ve done. So to have people able to finally have it now and to have the fans understand what I’ve been working on for two years, it’s just the most amazing feeling.”
