A publicist for the musician, whose real name is Wayne Richard Wells, confirmed the news to Billboard magazine but gave no further details about the cause of death. However, the publicist did reveal that Static had big plans in the works and was due to set out on a co-headlining tour with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool in the coming months.

Static, who was known for his signature gravity-defying hair, was a talented singer/guitarist/keyboardist who formed his namesake band in 1994 with his debut album Wisconsin Death Trip. The band went on to release five more albums with the last being 2009’s Cult of Static. Static-X disbanded in 2013, and Static had decided to embark on a solo career.
