Some things just get easier after a few drinks — karaoke, twerking and texting your ex, just to name a few. And, in Cara Delevingne’s case, a drink or two can be necessary when trying to stick to the perfect American accent.
Why the banning of The Fault in Our Stars is ridiculous
The supermodel and Victoria’s Secret Angel is set to play the lead role in Jake Schreier’s upcoming film, Paper Towns. It’s set in North Carolina, which requires the English beauty to swap her U.K. inflections in favor of an American accent.
Delevingne landed the role in September and is hard at work preparing, which includes practice during interviews — she took her new accent for a test run while speaking with E! News at a Topshop VIP dinner in New York City on Tuesday.
“Excuse my American accent,” Delevingne jokes to the interviewer. “I have to stick in it for a while.”
The interviewer jokes that she’ll test Delevingne on her work “after a few drinks” and the model-turned-actress jokingly replies, “It’s better when I have a few drinks, I’m sure.”
Catfight: Rita Ora and Cara Delevingne
Delevingne will play the lead in the film, a character named Margo, alongside Nat Wolff. Paper Towns is based on a YA novel of the same name, written by The Fault in Our Stars author, John Green.
“Cara Delievigne’s [sic] audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!” Green tweeted after Delevingne was cast for the part. Don’t worry — he joked later about grossly misspelling her name.
Director Jake Schreier weighed in, too, saying the audition “was something special.”
Delevingne, who made her acting debut in June in the British short film, Timeless, has already begun filming in North Carolina, E! News reports, but, luckily, the location doesn’t call for a Southern twang. Though, if it did, we’re sure Delevingne could nail it — maybe with the help of a little Southern Comfort.
