Pippa Middleton is gunning for stardom and NBC‘s Today show is happy to help her get there. However, there are a few people who aren’t as happy about Kate Middleton’s younger sister’s success — the royals.
The Daily Beast confirmed that NBC News has signed the party planner on as a correspondent for the Today show on a provisional basis. This isn’t Pippa’s first time at the NBC rodeo, though.
Pippa Middleton says sister’s wedding was “surreal”
The British gal sat down for a one-on-one interview with Matt Lauer back in June, which upset royal insiders. After her TV debut, NBC began courting her to join their team. They are taking it on a “giving it a try” basis versus a long-term contract.
Sources are already digging to find out how much Pippa will be paid and when she will make her morning-show debut. NBC is known to dig deep into their pockets for celebrity correspondents, like Chelsea Clinton, who made $600,000 per year with a limited time commitment.
The website’s source is calling NBC News’ hires the “lucky sperm club” since they have hired Chelsea, Pippa and Jenna Bush to their team. With this new gig, though, Pippa is going to have to face the wrath of the royals.
After her first American interview, a royal insider told Radar Online, “They are furious with Pippa. They wish that she would shut up. It is obvious that she wants to define her identify and step out of her sister’s shadow. However, she needs to know her place.”
Pippa Middleton fired from U.K.’s Daily Telegraph
This will also be Pippa’s latest attempt at establishing her career after her party-planning book, Celebrate, was a bomb and her lifestyle column for Britain’s the Telegraph was terminated after six months. She still occasionally writes for Vanity Fair.
While the royal family may try and block her latest efforts, she definitely has the support of her new colleague, Matt Lauer.
After his interview with her, he praised, “I think she’s incredibly grounded. She’s blown away by the attention she’s gotten over these last two or three years and is not sure what to do with all that attention.”
