Toy Story 4 is getting a female touch as producers are bringing Celeste and Jesse Forever writer/actress Rashida Jones on board to help add a unique romantic twist to the franchise.
Many people thought that Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending for Andy’s tale of growing up among his beloved toys and becoming a well-adjusted adult. But now, producer John Lasseter reveals he wants to take the story in a new direction. So what will that be? Toy Story 4 will be a romance.
Disney has a new movie and we’re freaking out over its main character
If you remember, Andy’s toys were given to a young girl named Bonnie and now she’s going to have her fun with all the toys in the upcoming installment. It’s a perfect setup, considering that, as a girl, Bonnie may have her own feminine take on adventure.
But haven’t we had enough Buzz Lightyear to last a lifetime? Lasseter thinks not. In a recent interview, he said, “We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”
New sketches show that if Disney characters were human, they’d all be white
We think picking Rashida Jones and her Celeste and Jessie Forever writing partner, Will McCormack, to write the screenplay is a great idea. They have a handle on modern romance that may just add up to a unique and inspiring love story. We can’t wait to find out which toys will open their hearts and take risks to find true love.
