U2 star Bono is actually really lucky to be alive following a scary incident that occurred while he was mid-flight earlier this week.

The “Beautiful Day” hit maker was making a two-hour trip from Dublin, Ireland, to Berlin, Germany, aboard a Learjet 60 D-CGEO, accompanied by four friends heading to the Bambi International Music awards when a really scary incident reportedly took place: the door completely tore away from the plane.
Bono’s bandmates Larry Mullen Jr., the Edge and Adam Clayton were not on board at the time as Bono had decided to leave for the music awards earlier than them to attend a diplomatic function with the German minister of economic cooperation and development, Gerd Mueller, the Daily Mail reports.
However, when the jet reached the German coast, the tailgate at the rear of the plane had become detached. A source revealed the details of the scary incident to the Irish Daily Mail, via the Daily Mail.

“He was extremely lucky, the plane could have gone down. About an hour into the journey they heard a big thud coming from the rear of the plane,” the source revealed. “They were startled for a bit, but they continued on and made the descent into Berlin airport. When they landed, they were horrified to learn that the compartment at the rear of the plane had completely detached.”
“The entire door along with Bono and his companions’ luggage had fallen out mid-air. They don’t know if the door and the contents landed over water or land, but they were extremely lucky. They were at an altitude where anything could have happened and they are all feeling very lucky to be alive.”

Luckily, the plane was able to land and all those on board are unharmed, but according to the Daily Mail, aviation authorities in Germany have launched an official probe into the incident. Poor Bono!
