Whoopi Goldberg has seemingly come to the defense of Bill Cosby following the allegations of rape that have resurfaced against the comedian.
Bill Cosby, lawyer won’t talk about rapes — but latest accuser will
Speaking on The View, Goldberg cast doubt about one of the alleged victims Barbara Bowman’s claims. Bowman has claimed Cosby drugged and raped her when she was a teenager in 1985, but Goldberg is not buying the story.
“Quite honestly, look, I’m sorry, having been on both sides of this where people allege that you do something — it doesn’t matter now. The cat is out of the bag, people have it in their head. I have a lot of questions for the lady, maybe she’ll come on,” Goldberg said.
Bowman told the Daily Mail she previously went to a lawyer in 1987, but she was laughed out of his office. “No one believed me. No one would listen. They thought I was making up stuff to get money,” Bowman said.

The Sister Act actress then went on to ask the question as to why Bowman never asked for a rape kit to prove she was actually raped.
“Perhaps the police might have believed it. Or the hospital. Don’t you do a kit when you say someone has raped you?” Goldberg asked her costars. “Isn’t that the next step once you make an allegation? Don’t the cops take you into a hospital for a kit?”
Co-host Rosie O’Donnell then brought up the fact that there was a settlement in 2006, when another woman, Andrea Constand, claimed Cosby had drugged and assaulted her in his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, home.
“There was a settlement, so that’s the thing that’s curious,” O’Donnell began before Goldberg quickly interjected.
“I can speak to settlements. Settlements don’t necessarily mean you’re guilty. You genuinely settle because you just don’t want to have to out your family through it again, and you don’t want to have to keep going through it again and again,” Goldberg confessed.

“I hope there is justice for this lady. I hope somebody gets to the bottom of it, but I’m going to reserve my judgment because I have a lot of questions, as I’ve said. It’s crazy, but I have a lot of questions, because I know we all have friends who have gone through this.”
This is not the first time Goldberg has been skeptical about rape allegations. According to More magazine, she previously ranted about Roman Polanski’s alleged rape charges with a 13-year-old, saying it wasn’t “rape rape.”
