Robin Williams’ son Zak finally opens up about life without his dad

Robin Williams‘ family has been left devastated by his death, and now for the first time, his son Zak, whom he shared with his first wife Valerie Velardi, is speaking out about life without his dad.

7 Things to know about Lewy body dementia and Robin Williams’ death

Zak was at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation fundraising gala in New York on Thursday when he revealed to Us Weekly how he and his family have been holding up since the Mrs. Doubtfire actor’s death in August.

“We’re doing okay,” Zak said on behalf of his family.

We’re acclimating to the new normal. Everything is step by step. Personally, my wife and I are focusing on doing a lot of good. She runs the San Francisco office of Human Rights Watch, and we’re working with them to do good in the world.”

The late actor also tried hard to do good in the world, and it is wonderful to know his son is following so closely in his footsteps. Speaking of his father and his friendship with the late Christopher Reeve, Zak said, “They had a tremendous love for one another. The amazing thing about their relationship was their incredible drive to take the time to love, to help, and to appreciate others, even while they found themselves in great pain.”

“They always found time to give their all to those in need. Bringing light and healing where there’s darkness, pain, or suffering is absolutely vital,” he added.

Zak also explained that his dad loved in a unique way, and his ability to love is something he treasures and admires.

“Dad had almost a childlike love, and he shared that love with people, with everyone,” he told the magazine. “And that ability to love, and that ability to be generous and giving and kind is something we would want to share with future generations.”

Zak also spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the same event, where he touched on the unbelievable tributes that so many paid to his father — which were further proof of just how much Robin Williams touched the lives of so many.

“The outpouring was remarkable,” Zak told the outlet. “People shared their supportive words, art, and all sorts of amazing tributes to my father.”
