A Burlington band became an internet celebrity after performing a cover using only one guitar and five players.
A Canadian indie band, Walk off the Earth, has hit internet stardom by posting a unique cover of Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know” on YouTube.
The cover features all five members playing on a single guitar, alternating between vocals. The video has received over 25 million views since it was posted on Jan. 5, 2012.
It has since received several positive responses on Twitter from Gotye (pictured above), Alyssa Milano and actor Russell Crowe who tweeted, “Check out Walk off the Earth’s cover of Somebody That I Used To Know. Brilliant.”
When asked how the band is handling their sudden success, band member Ryan Marshall responded saying, “We’re pretty pumped. It’s a bit overwhelming right now. It’s an awesome feeling.”
The timing for their success could not be better; the band is currently working on a new record and is in talks with several touring companies. Hopefully, their concerts would be as unique as their videos.
Walk off the Earth covered several other songs in the past including Adele‘s “Someone Like You” and “Rock Party Anthem” by LMFAO. Which song should they cover next?
