Aretha Franklin calls off wedding

You needn’t worry about buying those wedding gifts just yet. Grammy Award-winning singer Aretha Franklin has put the brakes on the wedding plans.

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has called off her wedding to long-time friend and companion William Wilkerson.

Franklin released a statement on her Facebook page reading:

“Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time. We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”

Just a few weeks ago the “Respect” singer was gushing about her engagement and recent weight loss.

She was planning to be fitted for a wedding gown made by Vera Wang, Donna Karan or Valentino.

It would have been Franklin’s third wedding. She was previously married to her then manager Ted White (they split in 1969) and to Glynn Turman (divorced in 1984).

It remains unclear whether the singer called off only the wedding or her entire relationship with Wilkerson.
