Oprah doing something unlawful? That’s impossible! It looks like the Queen of Daytime Talk may have gotten herself into some trouble after promoting her OWN on Twitter, getting television execs fired up.
Oprah may have gotten herself in a “little” Twitter mess.
The former Queen of Daytime Talk is reportedly in some hot water for tweets she sent out on Saturday. The talk-show host pleaded to Oprah Winfrey Network viewers to tune in.
“Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Nielsen box,” tweeted Oprah on Sunday night, according to E! Online. The tweet has since been taken down — not before being retweeted in heavy rotation, of course — but it appears it was a little too late: That little bit of promotion did not please the network heads at Nielsen. They said that no network, not even Oprah, is allowed to change or attempt to change the watching habits of an audience.
A rep from Nielsen told EntertainmentWeekly.com that they’re reviewing the incident.
“In accordance with our policies and procedures, Nielsen is reviewing this incident with our clients and we may withhold, breakout and/or make a note in the ratings. We take any violation of our policy seriously and will work with clients to resolve the situation.”
Oprah, who has always been known for her kind, humble and standup personality, responded to this unfortunate mishap via Twitter by sending out an apology — while shooting down critics who said she was desperate for sending out the tweet.
“…”desperate” not ever a part of my vocab,” tweeted the host.
Now, before this turns into a bitter feud between Oprah and the networks, you have to ask yourself — did Oprah really do anything wrong? Celebs are constantly promoting their movies via Twitter, Facebook and anywhere else they can stick their hands into. So maybe Nielsen shouldn’t blow this out of proportion too much. I mean, come on, she’s Oprah.
