I guess not everyone is a fan of Lady Gaga. Musician Rufus Wainwright has openly expressed his opinion and wasn’t too kind when talking about the major pop icon.
Oh no, it looks like Rufus Wainwright may have just unleashed a can full of little monsters.
The musician, who is promoting his new album, Out of the Game, has openly expressed his thoughts on mega popstar Lady Gaga – and he wasn’t so nice.
“There’s just not one good song there,” says Rufus in an interview with Music Week. The “Poses” artist refers to the Mother Monster when revealing his motivations for his upcoming pop rock album and although he says that he admires Gaga for her “tenacity, her ambition and her strength of vision” – he really doesn’t think she’s anything special.
“People, especially gay men, are falling so hard for it. Certain things that [she] says: ‘Look at me. I was like you one day and now I’m this – and you can do it too.’ I find it a bit disingenuous,” says Rufus. We are in this somewhat sinister period and [artists have] got to kind of toughen up and be real. I guess I want to put a little bit more grit into my presentation of what’s happening in the world. It’s about conveying what’s inside us, as opposed to the return of the cone breasts.”
Ouch, talk about being brutally straightforward. And to finish his personal point of view on “The Born this Way” singer, he calls her act “predictable and boring.”
Now we know everyone is going to say that Rufus is entitled to his own opinion and that the music business is all about expression, but we wonder if Rufus had a chance to look at all of Lady Gaga’s accomplishments, all of her philanthropy projects such as her Born This Way Foundation and her LGBT advocacy – or better yet, ask her millions of fans what they think.
Either way, we hope that Lady Gaga can take Rufus’ “constructive criticism” with a grain of salt and we hope that Rufus didn’t mean to be malicious with his comments. After all, its only one person’s opinion – right?
