The things one does for fashion, right? The Olsen twins’ newest handbag design may be the cat’s meow in the fashion world, but PETA will have the last word.
So, PETA has been rather quiet lately, but fear not, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have not been idle…
The organization has attacked the Olsen twins (Mary-Kate and Ashley) for designing and producing a handbag for their fashion line, The Row, made out of a medley of animal furs and skins. If that sounds like your game, this little precious can be yours for $17,000!
PETA, understandably, took offence to the new accessory, which top fashion stylist Rachel Zoe proclaimed the staple item for next season.
Um, no… What’s wrong with canvas or hemp handbags?
“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it’s the foxes, calves, and alligators – who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain – who pay the dearest price,” stated the animal organization on its website.
They even went so far as to call the fashion stars “Trollsen Twins.” While we do not support the parading of furs, perhaps insults are not the best policy for handling the situation. PETA should work more on solutions rather than point fingers at the issues in the fashion industry. Lead the people to ethical products, and the fashion companies will follow.
