Anne Hathaway wore vegan shoes in Les Miserables

This is what we like to hear. Anne Hathaway did not ditch her veganism even on the set of Les Miserables. The actress required animal-friendly shoes to be made for her character.

would shed a tear of pride at the news…

Anne Hathaway is doing all animals a big solid right now by dragging vegan footwear out of the hippie age into the new millennium and making it cool again. You are so welcome, beasts of the wild!

The 30-year-old actress wore a stunning pair of faux-leather, knee-high Tom Ford gladiator sandals to last week’s Les Miserables premiere in New York, and all of a sudden the entire fashion world sprouted a conscience. But it turns out Hathaway takes her veganism seriously even on film sets.

The actress requested cruelty-free footwear to be made for her Les Mis character, Fantine. Not quite historically accurate for a musical set in the 1800s, but very kind of her anyway.

“We had to find very specific shoemakers to create lace-up boots and ankle boots,” Paco Delgado, costume designer, told Footwear News (apparently that exists). “We also did flats that were much more sophisticated.”

That is dedication. We sincerely hope Hathaway can single-handedly stir the general public to consider switching to vegan footwear and save the hides of a few animals! Let’s be a bit more conscious.
