2013 Grammys: The best and worst dressed

The greatest part of any awards show is the criticisms afterward. Check out our roundup of the best and the worst dressed at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Best dressed

Rihanna

She did well, and we applaud her. Rihanna looked stunning in this custom-made Azzedine Alaïa gown; we could faint from the colour choice alone. It fit and flowed beautifully, showed some skin, but kept it classy. The hue echoed by RiRi’s lipstick and nail colour brought it all together.

Taylor Swift

The singer looked adorable in this J. Mendel chiffon gown. There’s something definitely Grecian about this choice, but with a twist. Swift kept the makeup and accessories on the minimalist side, which only emphasized the awesomeness of the gown all the more.

Beyoncé

Oh, be still our heart! Beyoncé took a bit of a risk wearing a jumpsuit to the Grammy Awards, but it definitely worked, and she looked gorgeous! This black-and-white Osman number seems to have been created for the sole purpose of being worn by Bey-Bey, no? Hats off to you, Madam!

Faith Hill

Another stunning J. Mendel piece was rocked by Faith Hill. Oh me, oh my! This slick, fitted dress is just so incredibly sexy and contrasts Hill’s hair perfectly. And her best accessory? Hubby, Tim McGraw, duh! Pick up them jaws, everybody!

Worst dressed

Nicole Kidman

What happened? We love us some Vera Wang, but seriously, what happened? Not only does the dress look like a fancy curtain from Grandma’s, but Nicole‘s hair is exactly the same colour! The fit does nothing, the dress does nothing, Kidman’s hair is just there… This just breaks our hearts!

Florence Welch

This pains us greatly, but alas, Florence Welch has made it on the Worst Dressed list. This green Givenchy creation is just off. We can’t tell if she’s a lizard of some sort or Poison Ivy ravaging the city of Gotham. The colour is beautiful, but the gown is so shiny! Not to mention bumpy! No. No, no, no — no! You can do so much better.

Kimbra

Is it weird that we still think she’s cute? Kimbra wore a Jaime Lee Major dress thing, and yeah, it was pretty bad. From the waist up it looks fantastic, but when you look down, it explodes into tulle clusters. Why? The scientists are in the lab trying to figure it out as we speak. Maybe if it had less fluff or wasn’t so lopsided? But we’re not that lucky.

Janelle Monáe

We understand the concept here — a sultry pantsuit and all. You’d think Janelle looking like a toreador was the biggest problem here, but nope! This ensemble is way too tight; it might as well have been painted on. We don’t know how she managed to breathe or sit in this thing, but the pulling and scrunching on the pants is not where sexy is at. If it had been a bit looser, it would have had a better chance at surviving on the red carpet.
