“Treat yo’ self” print

Whether or not you’re addicted to the comedy Parks and Recreation as much as we are, Tom Haverford’s reminder that it’s important to “treat yo’ self” is one many of us could use more of in our lives. And that’s exactly what you’ll get when you hang this fun typography print made by Meagen at Paperchat on your wall. So when you wake up each day, you’ll never forget to treat yo’ self!

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Meagen: As a graphic designer, I am constantly looking for inspiration. What inspires me to create for my Paperchat shop is good typography, quotes from my favourite TV shows and knowing that I’m creating pieces that bring laughter and fun into people’s homes.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

M: I love comedies. Parks and Rec is by far my favourite TV show, as you can tell from looking through my Etsy shop. I was pretty sad when 30 Rock ended; Liz Lemon is my hero. I also enjoy The Walking Dead.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from other, similar products available on Etsy?

M: My shop is filled with a little of everything. Everyone has their favourite TV show, and chances are you can find something in my shop you like. I’m working on expanding and creating new quotes from different shows. If someone doesn’t see their favourite quote, they can contact me, and I can create a custom listing for them.

Game of Thrones bracelets

Game of Thrones, based on the books by R.R. Martin, is filled with incredible lines. And these gorgeous hand-stamped bracelets made by Harold and Maude at Family House Stampin’ Urban Jewelry are a great way to keep one of those beautiful lines with you wherever you go. Bracelets not your thing? You can also get these great quotes on a ring or a key chain.

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Harold and Maude: We are two professional musicians who feel that creating nice jewellery in pure aluminum is an extension of our professional lives and a great way for us to create in another kind of art instead of music alone. It’s also a great way for us to relax at home.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

H and M:Game of Thrones and NCIS are our favourite TV shows. We’re also big hockey and darts fans as well.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from other, similar products available on Etsy?

H and M: We think the prices and fast responses to customers’ questions are our biggest strengths. Many products are similar on Etsy, and we are sure that’s why we still have a high average of satisfaction from our clients.

Downton Abbey throw pillow

Looking to give your space an aristocratic flair? This Downton Abbey throw pillow cover made by Searan Kiledjian of Seardig Travel Photography is sure to inject some drama and class into your decor. Or if throw pillows aren’t your thing, you can get this stunning image as a print or even as an iPhone cover.

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Searan Kiledjian: I believe we all, as human beings, have been given talents and gifts, and it is our responsibility to use these gifts. When we use our talents, we benefit by feeling fulfilled and purposeful and also benefit others, the recipients of our gifts.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

Searan Kiledjian: My favourite genre of TV is historical/period fiction. I enjoy following creative storylines that take a look at a snapshot of time, allowing me to not only learn about history but also how people lived during that period of time. My favourite TV show is Downton Abbey. My husband and I love it so much, we went to England in a hunting pursuit of finding Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey is filmed. There I was able to capture Highclere Castle in its beauty and grandeur, and now I have the privilege of sharing my discovery with the world through Etsy.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from other, similar products available on Etsy?

Searan Kiledjian: Seardig’s Colorful Travel Photography helps people escape to another place — a place where they are transported to via their daydreams, on a mini-vacation of sorts, for moments at a time. People have shared with me that my pieces have even encouraged them to create their own artwork and creations. It is an honour and great blessing to touch people and to use my creative gifting to benefit others.

Breaking Bad earrings

Finding a unique pair of statement earrings isn’t always easy. Fortunately, if you’re a fan of the hit show Breaking Bad, we may have found just what you’re looking for. These Breaking Bad–inspired earrings made by Meighan Smith at Eclectic Penguin are sure to be quite the conversation starter — and a major source of envy for other fans of the show.

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Meighan Smith: The video games that I play in my free time, the gorgeous Appalachian Mountains where I live, the computer programs that I use as a graphic designer — the list goes on and on. I pull inspiration from my day-to-day life. However, I would have to say that my friends and family constitute the majority of my inspiration. Many of the items in my shop began as little handmade gifts that I decided to share with the rest of the world. Last summer, a friend and I made a point to get together every single weekend to watch Breaking Bad, so when her birthday rolled around, I thought some earrings inspired by our favourite show would be appropriate.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

MS: I would have to say that my favourite TV genre is definitely thriller/drama. I love suspense, action and deep, convoluted plot lines. Favourite TV show is a bit more difficult. There are so many good ones, but I guess it would probably be whatever I’m currently watching. I just finished season eight of Supernatural, which absolutely blew my mind, but I’m sure as soon as Breaking Bad comes back in the middle of August, I’ll be a total Jesse Pinkman fangirl again. Although BBC’s Sherlock still has me on the edge of my seat, waiting for them to return, and Doctor Who is always good for an evening of reruns.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from, other similar products available on Etsy?

MS: They are made by me, of course! What I mean is, it seems like Etsy has more and more mass-produced items. And there is nothing wrong with that. Etsy is full of wonderfully brilliant people who simply have different methods of producing and distributing their creations. Personally, I enjoy being part of the entire process, from creating the necklace cords to building jewellery gift boxes to hand-lettering addresses on shipping envelopes.

Sheldon Cooper quote notebook

Need a little extra inspiration to motivate you to take down notes, organize your creative thoughts or write away in your journal? Then check out this Sheldon Cooper quote notebook made by Marieken Hoefnagel at Invisible Crown. Or if The Big Bang Theory isn’t your thing, check out her huge assortment of quote notebooks from other shows, such as Friends, The Vampire Diaries, Mad Men and more.

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Marieken Hoefnagel: I get inspiration from a lot of things — a quote, visiting a museum, riding to work on my bike. I did a year of art school but didn’t go through with it and stopped doing anything creative for years. When I joined Etsy some time ago as a buyer, I thought I should give it a try as a seller too.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

MH: I don’t really have one TV show that’s my favourite; it depends on my mood. When I feel girlie, I watch Sex and the City or Gossip Girl (I especially like watching all the great outfits!). I do prefer shows that have a bit of dark humour and sarcasm in them. I love Chandler from Friends and Doctor House.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from other, similar products available on Etsy?

MH: I don’t really know what sets my products apart from other, similar items. I try making things I’d like myself. When I make a sale, I always send the item out gift wrapped so the receiver feels like he or she is treating himself or herself to a little gift. I hope there aren’t too many similar items, though. I hope to be original.

True Blood wall clock

Can’t get enough of True Blood — or more important, Alexander Skarsgard? You aren’t alone. And lucky for you, Randy Cutter at Clocks Galore created this Eric Northman wall clock, so even when you’re having a rough day, you can look up and see his handsome face.

SheKnows Canada: What inspires you to create?

Randy Cutter: Well, my most honest answer here would be my daughter. Everything I do is so that she can have a better life and childhood than I did. I used to work third shift, not seeing her as often as I’d like. I recently quit my job (five months ago) and began selling these clocks from home full time so that I could spend more time with her. Beyond my daughter, I would have to say that my customers inspire me as well. Especially the ones that ask for a custom order. I immensely enjoy doing custom orders and having my customers tell me how much they love the design. It just makes me feel good.

SK: What is your favourite TV show and/or TV genre, and why?

RC: I don’t really have a favourite TV show, because I don’t watch a whole lot of TV nowadays, but my favourite genre is sci-fi. I’ve always enjoyed the “unknown” of things that don’t exist today but [that] possibly could in the future.

SK: What do you think sets your pieces apart from other, similar products available on Etsy?

RC: I don’t know that my clocks are any different than the other clocks on Etsy other than the time I spend on each one when I make them. I pride myself in having 100 per cent customer satisfaction, because that’s what I would expect from anyone I was to purchase from. Quality is important to me, not quantity. And I believe my prices show that.
