Stephen Colbert praises Canadian hero Kevin Vickers (VIDEO)

Today may be the day when pigs fly. Stephen Colbert apologized to Canada for his past jabs at our country and praised parliamentary hero Kevin Vickers for his bravery.

Kevin Vickers is Canada’s new national hero, for courageously intervening in last week’s Ottawa shooting, when Michael Zehaf-Bibeau opened fire and killed Corporal Nathan Cirillo at the Canadian National War Memorial before launching an attack at the Centre Block building on Parliament Hill.

Stephen Colbert will be in The Hobbit!

Vickers’ skilful manoeuvring during the confrontation on Parliament Hill was so impressive that even comedian Stephen Colbert could not resist praising the sergeant-at-arms — who fatally struck Bibeau — on a recent segment of The Colbert Report. Yeah, that Stephen Colbert. The guy who said Barack Obama should invade Winnipeg to boost his position in the polls… Colbert not only apologized for his former mockery of our perfect country (fact) but also compared Vickers to Bruce Willis. We made it, you guys. We did it.

Our favourite line of all time henceforth shall be: “Our neighbour to the north just put the ‘eh’ in ‘yippee-ki-yay.'” Brilliant! We also appreciate the botched version of the Canadian anthem. Close enough, right?

Is The Colbert Report racist, or is Twitter overreacting?

Let’s not detract from the fact that Vickers deserves all this praise and then some. We love that Colbert tipped his hat to this great man and did so with the right amount of humour. Well done, sir. Well done!
