The first batch of 2015 Grammy Awards nominations have been announced, and the internet is going crazy for them.
CBS This Morning announced the nominees from four categories at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, California, on Friday morning. And while people like Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are no surprise, there are some other artists who have been nominated that certainly are big shockers.
1. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus‘ album Bangerz was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for the first time. Yes, we love “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop,” but apart from these tracks, we hardly know what’s on the rest of the album. And this former Disney star has made more headlines in recent months for her raunchy antics and barely-there clothing choices than her singing abilities.
2. Meghan Trainor
Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” has been the song of the summer, thanks to its catchy beats and uplifting message (well, for some people). But it’s now been nominated for Record of the Year, and while this song is cute — and so is Trainor — is it really in the same league as Sia’s “Chandelier” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me?”
3. John Legend
John Legend’s track “All of Me” was previously overlooked, so we weren’t sure it would be a contender this year. However, he cleverly decided to do a live version of it, and it’s been nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for the 2015 Grammys.
4. Brandy Clark
Brandy Clark has been nominated for Best New Artist. But this may come as a shock to many fans since most people have never even heard of her — unless you’re a massive country music fan.
However, this singer-songwriter is proving that she’s a force to be reckoned with. She’s been nominated for three awards this year, including Country Music Association Award for New Artist of the Year and Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year.
5. Iggy Azalea
When it comes to Iggy Azalea, you either love her hit “Fancy” or you really, really hate it — Azealia Banks is definitely part of the latter group — but clearly the Australian rapper and Charli XCX have enough fans in the industry for their track to be considered for the Record of the Year Grammy nomination.
6. U2
Irish rockers U2 are no strangers to winning awards, but they have been nominated for Best Rock Album for Songs of Innocence. And the reason why this is so surprising? Just look at the stink this album caused when it was released during a promotion with iTunes! So many people wanted the album removed from their music library that iTunes had to create a remove button.
