Did Grumpy Cat make more money than Kim Kardashian and JLaw this year?

Everyone knows celebrities’ salaries are sky-high, but what you would never expect is for a cat to make more than an A-lister. But that’s just what happened after Grumpy Cat banked way more dough than several popular stars this year. Ready for a few cups of that spiked eggnog now?

Yep, you read it right. Grumpy Cat raked in $99.5 million in the last two years, making her yearly salary higher than Kim Kardashian’s, Jennifer Aniston’s and Gwyneth Paltrow’s. It just goes to show that talent is not really needed in Hollywood to succeed; heck, you don’t even need star power. All you need is a super-cute and furry grumpy face.

When Grumpy Cat, whose real name Tardar Sauce, first debuted in the public eye, she was an automatic hit on the internet. Tardar appeared everywhere and her permanent scowl became a staple among the famous. She kept her momentum going to the point that she amassed a fortune for her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, in just two years after becoming famous.

“What she’s achieved in such a short time is unimaginable and absolutely mind-blowing,” Bundesen told Express via Vox.com. “I was able to quit my job as a waitress within days of her first appearance on social media, and the phone simply hasn’t stopped ringing since.”

Between her numerous appearances for places such as South by Southwest and even her own movie, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, Grumpy Cat surpassed the big-time paychecks of some of Hollywood’s most elite. Aside from Kardashian, Aniston and Paltrow, Grumpy Cat also beat out Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson in the earnings department.

According to Vox.com, if all these celebs doubled their income for the year, they still wouldn’t make as much as Grumpy Cat did. Well, that’s enough to change Tardar’s signature unhappy frown into a big and wide smiley face for the rest of her rich life, isn’t it?

UPDATE at 1:59 p.m. PST: According to the Washington Post, Grumpy Cat didn’t actually make nearly $100 million. Grumpy Cat’s owner confirmed to the site on Monday afternoon that the British report is “completely inaccurate.”
