EXCLUSIVE CLIP: Madagascar‘s lemurs are headed to Netflix! (VIDEO)

King Julien may not seem to know much about ruling a jungle kingdom, but he sure knows how to have a good time, and now you can join him for the ultimate jungle party on Netflix!

Anyone who’s seen the Madagascar movies will probably agree that King Julien of the lemurs is a perennial party animal. He’s got great taste in music, a keen eye for fashion and some of the funniest lines in the films.

Which is why it was only a matter of time until he got his own spinoff series.

While Penguins of Madagascar has been storming theaters, King Julien and his loyal subjects have been working on a new animated series for Netflix called All Hail King Julien. The six-episode series debuts on Dec. 19 and will center on Julien as his inner party beast rebels against his boredom with the monotony of ruling.

The trailer for the series shows Julien in the grip of an extreme case of dance fever, as one his most trusted advisers, Maurice, begs him to come down off the boom box.

Fans of the Madagascarworld will be pleased to know that many other favorite members of the lemur colony are returning, including the kingdom’s former leader, Uncle King Julien (voiced by Henry Winkler). The show will introduce a few new characters, as well, including our favorite, Clover — a she-lemur who’s in charge of security and special ops.

According to Mitch Watson, executive producer of DreamWorks Animation’s All Hail King Julien, female lemurs are usually in charge of real-life Madagascar colonies.

“We wanted to create a female character who didn’t go the traditional route of being the ‘wet-blanket’ girl,” states Watson. “Clover is pretty much as nuts as Julien, but in her own unique way. Even though she’s tasked with the security of the kingdom, her perspective is as skewed as Julien’s.”

And that’s really saying something considering Julien is one of the most, er, colorfully written animated characters of the series.

All Hail King Julien debuts on Netflix Dec. 19.
