Willie Robertson is taking a softer stance on homosexuality than his father, but he’s still not totally convinced. Can the family ever become more accepting of other lifestyles?
The Duck Dynasty star said that after the huge controversy caused by his father Phil Robertson — who nearly got their show canceled after comparing homosexuality to bestiality and other major faux pas — he took some time to examine the issue and may even be kinda sorta coming around to the idea that being gay is OK. As long as you love Jesus, that is.
“We stood by our father. We stood by him as a family again,” Willie said during an appearance on Larry King Now. “Some of the things he said in that interview I didn’t agree with and I’ve even said so, and he’s even come out and said, ‘Yeah, that was a mistake.’ With things leading to bestiality, it was a mixed bag there of things. And then he quoted a Scripture, and that’s what’s in the Scripture. What I want people to know and what we’ve said over and over and over is that we love everybody.”
Willie explained that after Duck Dynasty‘s suspension was lifted, he met with some gay people who work on the show and for the A&E network at large in a bid to become more accepting, and said it helped open his eyes. But the one thing he still can’t wrap his mind around is that being gay is not a choice.
“I’m trying to figure that out right now, I really am,” he said. “Since the controversy and since I know all these people and if the thought is, ‘I’m born this way,’ I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out myself though the passages. Because I always have to look through the Scriptures to see what’s there and then I put it up against people, put my time in, so I’ve spent time with people.”

But hey, don’t worry about Willie judging you, because God is already doing that. By the way, do you know Jesus? Because Willie would like to introduce you so he can judge you, too.
“I’m not the judge. God’s gonna be the judge,” Willie added. “So it’s not my job to convince people to change their lives. It’s really through Jesus — if I introduce them to Jesus, he’ll do that. All I can do on the surface is love people, accept people, be kind and be respectful to people and I think as a family that’s what we do.”
