The Interview isn’t the only movie suffering after North Korea’s threats.
In fact, the entire film industry is taking notice and swift action as a result.

Now that Sony has decided to keep the Seth Rogen and James Franco movie out of theaters, New Regency has announced another casualty: Steve Carell‘s in-development project set in North Korea will not be made.
The untitled thriller has been indefinitely canceled, according to Deadline.
Steve Carell, who rarely posts to Twitter, shared a disappointed tweet shortly following the news.

The film, with the working title Pyongyang, according to slashfilm.com, was a dark comedy based on the graphic novel by Guy Delisle, described as “a paranoid thriller about a Westerner’s experiences working in North Korea for a year.”

North Korea’s chilling effect began last month when it became the prime suspect in the Sony hack.
The country has made it known that they are unhappy with the studio’s film, The Interview, because it tells the fictional story of an assassination plot aimed at the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un.
The threats only got worse until Sony recently decided to pull the plug on the Christmas Day release altogether.

“We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees and the American public,” Sony said in a statement.
The statement continued, “We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome.”
So far, the investigation into the threats and the hack is still ongoing.
